Charity Donations 2025
Red Deer Village, the over 50’s community in Stepps, Glasgow, takes great pride in the effort we make to support those less fortunate than ourselves. We like to give back outside our retirement community. This can include supporting local business, sponsoring individual fundraising activities or annual events like our Macmillan Coffee Morning or Christmas presents donation. Take a look below at our retirement village’s charity donations since the spring of 2025.
Bingo Night and Charity Box Donations
Every month, we have a new charity box at our coffee bar in our residents hub. The residents hub is home to all events that take place within our retirement village. Thanks to all those who donate, whether it be a donation to enjoy a tea or coffee, or donating to participate in our monthly bingo, which is organised by residents, Val and Kenny.
In April, our residents’s bingo raised £38, bringing the April total for Make A Wish to £62.17. Our May 2025 bingo night raised £24, bringing the total to £68.35 for Cardowan Community Meadow. In June, our bingo raised £31.75 for Alzheimer Scotland, reaching a total for June of £68.43. July’s bingo, £40, meant we could donate £71.29 to Encephalitis International. In August 2025, we managed to raise £76.93 for Dogs Trust (£30 from bingo), £42.50 for Butterfly Trust in October (£24 from bingo) and £51.45 for BBC Children In Need in November (£16 of which came from bingo). Thank you very much everyone, we couldn’t do it without you! Our charity for December is British Heart Foundation, which bingo has already raised £11.50 for. We’ll update you on the final total for December soon!
Macmillan Coffee Morning 2025
On Friday, 26th September, Red Deer Village held its annual Macmillan Coffee Morning, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. Our wonderful staff, residents and their friends managed to raise a fantastic £380.93 on the day and a total of £396.57 over the course of September, with Red Deer Village contributing an additional £250. This brought the total for September to £646.57!
Thank you to all who baked, brought something along or just showed up to enjoy the day with us. Well done to our star baker, Linda, who is resident Margaret’s sister! You can check out all the action in the YouTube video below.
Christmas Present Donations
As part of Red Deer Village’s annual tradition, our over 50’s community donated £250 worth of Christmas presents to Fare Scotland. This is a charity based at the Glasgow Fort at Christmas, who distributes presents to kids in the local area who otherwise may not receive a gift during the holidays. Many of our residents also donated gifts and toys, as well as some cash donations totalling £110. Thank you to Fare Scotland for coming out to collect, and thank you to all residents who donated!
Karen McManus London Marathon
Karen McManus used to help out part time with cleaning in our holiday park and is the daughter of one of our residents, Patricia. Next year, she is running the London Marathon in aid of the mental health charity, Mind. To support Karen’s cause and get her on her way to her £500 target, Red Deer Village donated £50 via her Just Giving page, which anyone can donate to. Several Stepps local businesses have already donated, as well as some of the Red Deer Village staff. Best of luck, Karen! We can’t wait to hear how you get on.
Leah Louise Hendry 15K Tough Mudder
Leah Louise from our office team took on the 15k Tough Mudder challenge earlier this year. She managed to raise an incredible £1575 for Macmillan Cancer Support. Red Deer Village donated £250 to her fundraiser, whilst many residents and staff members also sponsored her for the event. Well done to Leah Louise, and thank you to all of our very generous residents!
