Christmas Lights Switch-on 2019

Christmas Lights Switch-on 2019

Red Deer Village, Stepps, hosted a Christmas lights switch-on on Friday 29 November 2019! The exclusive over 50s community near Glasgow have hosted the Christmas lights switch-on for the last 3 years in a row.

Christmas Decorations

Decorations are put up around the park every year and are alight throughout December. These include giant teddy bears, snowmen, reindeer, candy cane and fairy lights round the street lamps. The residents’ hub is also decorated for the festive season, with a red and green Christmas tree topped with candy canes and baubles hanging from the ceiling. Christmas village scenes also line the shelves and various Santa Clauses are around the hub. Even our office staff are Christmassy, with new red tartan uniforms!

Christmas Lights Switch-on 2019

The Christmas lights switch-on 2019 had a great turnout, with many residents inviting family members to attend. Mince pies, teas, coffees and an iced Christmas cake was shared by all before the turning on of the lights. Then, at around 5:15, residents and guests counted down as the park was lit up for the first time in 2019. Afterwards, many returned to the hub, whilst others wandered around the park to see the rest of the decorations.

Donations to The Salvation Army

The Christmas lights switch-on allowed residents to donate presents and money to The Salvation Army. Red Deer Village likes to donate to The Salvation Army every year at Christmas time. This is because they distribute toys to children in the local area who may otherwise not get Christmas presents. We always aim to get a wide variety of gifts to suit all age groups and both boys and girls. Red Deer Village donated £250 worth of Christmas presents to the charity this year, whilst many residents also brought in presents to donate. The event also raised £24.05 in cash to donate. Tom from The Salvation Army came to collect the presents on Wednesday 4 December, and was delighted with everyone’s help.
