Macmillan Coffee Afternoon and Hub Activities

Macmillan Coffee Afternoon

Red Deer Village are delighted at the success of our most recent Macmillan Coffee Afternoon! The exclusive over 50’s retirement residential park home community in Glasgow, Scotland, held the event to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. We were overwhelmed with the support!

Macmillan Coffee Afternoon

Red Deer Village have held 2 events for Macmillan Cancer Support before. It had started to become an annual event before the pandemic struck and our hub was closed to residents. So this year, we were anxious for everything to run smoothly, and for the event to be the success it has been in the past.

Our residents’ hub is a purpose-built building for residents to visit. They can enjoy a tea or coffee with friends or neighbours, take advantage of our book swap, and attend our busy event calendar.

This year’s coffee afternoon was mostly organised by our new office manager, Nicole, who has been with us since April this year. Residents offered to bring in home baking, store bought goods and plenty of raffle prize donations. Some of our home baked items included cupcakes, tablet, loaf cake, scones and rocky road. Raffle prizes available included bottles of alcohol, jewellery pieces and a special prize crystal vase.

The event took place on Friday, 30 September, from 2pm-4pm. Residents came along with family and friends – the hub was full!

We managed to raise a fantastic £577.14 for the cause. Furthermore, Red Deer Village contributed £300. This brought our final total to £877.14, which is wonderful! Thank you to everyone who helped out, donated or even attended. We couldn’t have done it without you!

High Tea in Memorial of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II

In other hub news, some of our residents recently held a memorial high tea in honour of her late majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. Although not everyone may be fans of the Royal Family, no one can deny Queen Elizabeth put her duty above all else, and served her country faithfully. Rest in peace, your majesty.

First Aid Training

And finally, our team have completed their emergency first aid at work training. They learned how to perform CPR, use a defibrillator, how to help someone choking, as well as many other important and potentially life-saving manoeuvres. We hope we won’t have to put it into practice, but everyone enjoyed the course.

Stay tuned to find out what the village people get up to this winter. It’s already going to include a trip to the SECC Christmas Crafts Fayre, a 50s/60s/70s quiz night and a jewellery sale evening!
