There are so many myths about living in a park home, and it’s time we think they were dispelled. Check out our top revelations and truths about park homes!

There are a number of misconceptions about living in a residential park home or retirement community such as Red Deer Village. In this blog we dispel some of the most common myths.

Myth #1: Park homes are cheap housing options

Some people perceive that park homes are a low-cost housing option. Although some park homes can be more affordable than a traditional bricks and mortar house, this is not reflected in our resident’s quality of life. Park homes offer the opportunity to move to a quieter and more peaceful location, surrounded by like-minded people with great services.

At Red Deer Village, park home owners can take full advantage of our courtesy shuttle bus which takes residents for their weekly shopping and on monthly outings. Furthermore, residents can enjoy the use of our community hub where they can chat with neighbours, relax with a tea or coffee or attend one of our regular events.

Myth #2: Park homes are for the elderly

Whilst Red Deer Village is exclusively for the over 50’s, our residents are still young at heart and maintain an active social life. They enjoy frequent trips and a number of events throughout the year.

Myth #3: Impossible to switch from house to park home

Some people believe that the move from a house to a park home is difficult and that they’ll never be able to adjust to something smaller. However moving to a park home doesn’t mean you have to compromise on space. At Red Deer Village we have park homes measuring 50ft x 22ft, with multiple bedrooms and bathrooms, offering plenty of space for you and any visitors or family members.

Kitchens come with fully fitted appliances and our homes come with matching outside storage units. Our interior designer can even help you decorate your home to match your personal taste.

Myth #4: There are secret costs

The idea of freeing up equity to downsize but not downgrade can cause people to think that they’ll end up spending more than they had originally planned. However, there are no hidden costs to worry about when buying a park home. Utility providers are down to residents’ preference and park owners do not interfere with the bill. Park homes typically cost less to heat and they are in Band A for council tax, which is the cheapest band.

The only additional expense to budget for is the monthly site fees, which go towards the general upkeep and maintenance of the park. This is similar to an apartment service charge for maintaining communal areas.

Myth #5: There’s no security

Contrary to some people’s opinions, a park home is not an easier target for burglars. Residential park security features are often over and above those found in a regular housing estate. Red Deer Village has CCTV cameras covering the entrance to the park plus a secure gated entrance. We aim not just to protect your security but also your peace of mind.

Myth #6: Poor quality builds

Residential parks actually have a superior build quality in comparison to static caravans and lodges. Park homes are built to high BS3632 specifications with insulation and double glazing. As is the case with regular properties, park homes need to be maintained and well looked after. However general upkeep tends to be minimal in comparison to a bricks and mortar home.

Myth #7: Park homes do not retain their value

There is a common misconception that residential park homes do not retain their resale value. The value of park homes fluctuates in line with the local property market. Location, condition and size are all contributing factors to the resale value. If the value of land is increasing, the value of the park home that is situated on it shouldn’t fall. With park home living becoming increasingly popular, demand and value will remain high.
