Residential Park News Autumn 2024

Park News Autumn 2024

As usual, there’s been lots going on at Red Deer Village, the over 50’s retirement park in Stepps, Glasgow! We take a look below at some of the exciting events and park news that has taken place and what’s still yet to happen before the end of 2024.

Macmillan Coffee Afternoon

Our Macmillan Coffee Afternoon took place on Thursday, 26 September in our residents hub. The purpose built hub is home to all of the events and activities that take place at Scotland’s Red Deer Village. Our residents, their friends and staff members managed to raise a fantastic £422.68 for Macmillan Cancer Support! Red Deer Village contributed £250.00, bringing the grand total to £672.68. Thank you to everyone who came along and shared the day with us, as well as to all who baked, donated food or raffle prizes. We’d also like to thank the talented Mark Trotman, who performed on his keyboard at the event.

Charity Donations

We have recently managed to raise £32.59 for Barnardo’s and £37.05 for Alzheimer Scotland. Thank you to everyone who donated!

We have also continued to drop off more bedding and items to Glasgow’s No 1 Baby & Family Support Service.

Veronica and Elizabeth took a trip along to the friendly local Cardowan Community Meadow to deliver the money raised from our 20 year anniversary open day. The team was very happy to receive the £680.23 donation and they will keep us posted on how it is used. Thank you to everyone who donated!

20 Year Anniversary Tree

In honour of our 20 year anniversary, Red Deer Village have planted a beautiful purple beech tree of the dawyck variety (this tree is also known as fagus sylvatica). It’s a great addition to the  park! We’ll soon be adding a commemorative plaque to the area.

Runaway Bird

It was an unusual day when the maintenance team found a parrot in our storage yard and didn’t know who it belonged to. Our staff had a great time looking after the bird for 10 minutes, when we reached resident, Nan McGuiness. She was delighted that the team had found her pet bird. She had thought it was gone for good! Thanks to our guys, George and Peter, for putting a smile back on Nan’s face 😀.

October Bus Trip

Red Deer Village’s courtesy shuttle bus takes residents for their shopping twice a week and on a monthly trip to a destination of their choice. Our friendly bus driver, John, is always happy to take suggestions and is always looking for new ways the bus could be used. This month, the bus trip will be to Livingston Designer Outlet on Thursday, 24 October.

Halloween Social Night

In other park news, our residents are organising a Halloween get together on Friday, 1 November. The event will begin at 7pm. Bring your own food and drink, and get ready for a spook-tacular time! If you would like to dress up, this is up to yourself, but it is by no means necessary to attend. We can’t wait to see the pictures!

Fare Scotland

Every year at Christmas time, Red Deer Village donates £250.00 worth of Christmas presents to Fare Scotland. They distribute these to kids in the local area who otherwise may not get any presents on Christmas morning. We invite residents every year to participate and donate gifts to those less fortunate. If you would like to participate this year, please bring in any gifts you may have to the hub from the middle to the end of November. Collection of donations are normally organised for the beginning of December.
