Residential Park News Winter 2024

Christmas is always an exciting time at Red Deer Village, the exclusive over 50’s park home community over the doorstep of Glasgow, Scotland. Our retirement village has recently turned on our Christmas lights, made our annual toy donation to the less fortunate and welcomed some new neighbours to the park. Read on to see Red Deer Village’s 2024 winter news!
Christmas Lights
Our annual Christmas lights switch on took place on Thursday, 28 November at 5pm. Residents gathered in the hub beforehand to enjoy teas, coffees and mince pies. One of our residents, Mark, played his keyboard and performed a few Christmas carols. Just before 5pm, everyone headed outside for the countdown. The Scottish retirement community looks fantastic at this time of year, with new decorations for 2024 to light up the park for Christmas.
Christmas Present Donation
Every year, Red Deer Village in Scotland buys £250 worth of Christmas presents for kids in the local area who otherwise may not get a Christmas present. We give these to Fare Scotland to distribute. Stefanie visits us every year to collect the gifts and let us know a bit about what the charity is doing this year. They appear every Christmas in the Glasgow Fort, about a 15 minute drive from Red Deer Village. This year, they are working with local schools to ensure gifts for kids are more personal rather than generic. They will be using any cash donations to make food hampers for those who may go without a Christmas dinner. Many of our residents brought in cash and present donations this year to add to Red Deer Village’s total. We can’t thank everyone enough!
Christmas Decoration Competition
Red Deer Village loves to see our residents light up their homes for the festive season. The park looks so pretty when everyone puts in the effort! There are some fantastic decorations up this year, but we’ve made the difficult decision of choosing a winner. Congratulations to Roseann Anderson, her home looks fantastic every winter and she always goes the extra mile with her Christmas decorations! Special mentions also go to Margaret & Raymond Williams, Cliff & Elaine Collins and Anne & Arthur Glen. Well done everyone!
Charity Donations
We have recently managed to raise £40.69 for Butterfly Trust and £12.51 for BBC Children In Need via our charity box at our coffee bar. Thank you to everyone who donated!
Halloween Social Night
Our residents celebrated Halloween with a social night on Friday, 1 November. Everyone had a blast and some even dressed up. Kenny, one of our retirement village residents, looked fantastic!
Wildlife Cameras
Wildlife is very important to Red Deer Village’s retirement park in Glasgow. We have taken the David Bellamy Blooming Marvellous Pledge for Nature, which comes with many initiatives to get parks involved in looking after their environments. We encourage our residents to take part in our efforts too! One of our residents, Sandra, recently asked us if she could install a wildlife camera in her garden. She’s caught some great videos of both foxes and deer!
Minibus
Our Red Deer Village courtesy shuttle bus got a new number plate! Bus driver, John, models with the new “RDV 55” below. The minibus takes residents for their weekly shopping twice a week and on outings to destinations of their choice.
Fire Extinguisher Training
Our staff have completed their annual fire extinguisher and safety awareness training, provided by the friendly Colin at Fire Prevention Scotland. For some of our staff, this was their first time using an extinguisher. So it was a great learning experience for everyone!
Model Shoot
Vanessa Hastings, a young photographer in Glasgow agency, Colours, reached out to us to ask if she could shoot some images at Red Deer Village Holiday Park for a test shoot. Model, Jack Simpson, and Vanessa visited us to use one of our holiday homes for their shoot. Vanessa let us know that everything went well and they both had a great time!
Stepps Library – Local Winter News
The local Stepps library in local winter news, only a 10 minute drive from Red Deer Village, has reopened after being closed for over 4 years. They offer a selection of books for all ages, computers people can use and photocopying facilities. They are also able to supply hearing aid batteries, give out dog waste bags and have books in larger print. Residents are welcome to use our courtesy minibus to drop them off on a Thursday or Friday!
Diamond Anniversary
We’d like to wish a very special diamond wedding anniversary to two of our newer residents, John and Annette. Congratulations to you both on 60 years together! If any of our residents have any special birthdays or anniversaries they’d like to share with us, we’d love to hear about them.
