Staff Awards, Resident Competitions and Charity Donations

20 year anniversary

Red Deer Village, the over 50’s retirement park in Glasgow, Scotland, recently celebrated their 20 year anniversary. The park enjoyed a great day, with a hog roast, chosen charity Cardowan Community Meadow, local councillors, residents and visitors in attendance. Our residential park homes for sale were also open to view. We promised a part 2 for all of the wonderful details in our first blog regarding the celebration, so here we are! After raising a magnificent £680.23 charity donation, we had some very special announcements to make. Read on to find out more, and find pictures below.

Staff Awards

Red Deer Village would not be able to operate without our wonderful staff. We truly rely on them and are very grateful for everyone’s hard work. So, we thought that some of them deserved some special recognition. We were delighted to present Peter Thomson, George Girdwood and Elizabeth Ferns with BH&HPA Exceptional Service Awards. These are issued by the main governing body of the park home & holiday parks industry, so high praise to you all, and thank you!

Unable to join us on the day, but still worthy of recognition, is John Rodden and Daniel Penev. They both celebrate 10 years with Red Deer Village! Thank you for your dedication to the park.

Resident Competitions

As part of our 20 year anniversary celebration, we held a competition for residents to create a green food or drink item to mark the “emerald” anniversary. We picked 2 winners as their submissions were fantastic. Marie Shaw made some Aero rocky road, whilst Anne Glen made a fruit tree forest. Well done ladies, they were amazing! They received a lovely prize each of sparkling wine and Prosecco.

We also announced our gardening competition winners during the 20 year anniversary open day. Winner for the best garden in terms of providing habitat for pollinating insects was David Anderson, whose garden has a variety of gorgeous plantlife. The winner of the most improved garden since they moved in was Raymond & Margaret Williams, who have completely re landscaped, with some eye catching turf and bright white stones. Raymond & Margaret were also the happy winners of 2 raffle prizes, a green fruit and veg hamper donated by Cardowan Community Meadow, and a garden tidy up from Red Deer Village gardeners. Both winners of the gardening competition received a £20 gift voucher to spend at Caulders Garden Centres.

Local Business Donations

We’d like to say a huge thank you to the local businesses of Stepps and surrounding area for donating prizes to our raffle, to fundraise for Cardowan Community Meadow. Businesses included Red Deer Village Holiday Park, Spotless Clean, Morrison’s at Glasgow Fort, The Co-Operative, AS Car Wash, Bannatyne’s Health Club, Tattoo Barbers Stepps, De Bloemist van Nederland, The Iron Lady, Andrew Reid Butchers, Belles Beauty, Caulders Garden Centre and Cardowan Community Meadow.

Other Charity Donations

We reported in our Spring News 2024 blog that we managed to raise £37.40 for Scottish SPCA. Katie from the charity came to collect the donation from us in April. Since then, we have also managed to raise £44.61 for Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS), £54.29 for Help for Heroes and £60.71 for Make A Wish. Pictured below are Katie from Scottish SPCA and Ben from CHAS.

Our final charity donation lately has been to Glasgow’s No 1 Baby & Family Support Service. Our 5 star holiday park had plenty of spare bedding that we no longer had use for. So, our office manager, Veronica, took time out to go and meet with Rhona to donate some of our bed linen. You can check out their amazing work and donate via their Facebook page. Keep up the great work!

We’re very excited to see where the next 20 years at Red Deer Village takes us. We hope there are many celebrations still to come!
