The Salvation Army Donation

Salvation Army Donation

Although this Christmas may not quite be as merry as usual, we’ve tried our best to keep things interesting this December!

Red Deer Village usually welcomes December with a bang. The over 50’s residential park is brightly lit with decorations on Decembers 1st, whilst residents gather in the hub to eat mince pies. The Salvation Army attends to collect many donations from staff and residents, and a good time is had by all. Sadly, this year has been very different for all of us. However, that hasn’t stopped us from doing as much as we can to still make December a month to look forward to! Take a look at all the things that have been happening at Red Deer Village in Glasgow over the festive season below.

Red Deer Village donation to the Salvation Army

Every December, Tom and Pamela from the Salvation Army visit us to collect toys to distribute to children in the local area who otherwise wouldn’t be able to get a new gift for Christmas. Although this year has been very different, we certainly wanted to make sure that this could still happen. Red Deer Village donated £250 worth of presents to the cause. We were also delighted with the enthusiastic efforts shown by our residents, who brought in toys, gifts and cash donations. We’re sure this will go a long way, and thank you to everyone who donated! Pictured below is Ian Hendry (son of director John) with Robin from the Salvation Army collecting the gifts. Masks and social distancing was obviously observed! If you would like to donate, please visit the Salvation Army’s Just Giving page.

Resident Photography Competition

In September we announced a photography competition for residents, with the winners receiving a £25 cash prize. The one rule was that photos had to be taken on the park. We were thrilled with the amount of entries we recieved! Although difficult, we managed to choose 2 winners. 1st was Kevin Cunningham (submitted on behalf of his wife, Veronica), with his amazing squirrel photos. It gave everyone in the office a laugh, and we’re sure other residents would agree with this winning choice.

Our 2nd winning entry was the beautiful sunset below captured by Marie Kerr. The sunset serves as a stunning backdrop to some of the residential homes on our exclusive over 50’s park.

Christmas Lights

Unfortunately we could not host our regular mince pie-filled Christmas lights switch-on event this year. However, on 1st December, we still lit up Red Deer with our eye-catching decorations. Below are some great photos taken by our award-winning (quite literally) photographer, Marie Kerr.
