Things to Watch this Winter

Covid-19 restrictions were relaxed in Scotland over winter. This allowed us to reopen the doors of our residents hub and restart our popular activities and events. There’s been plenty happening around the park too. So, here’s our update of what’s been going on at Red Deer Village recently, and what’s to come next.
Christmas Decorations Award
We love seeing residents celebrate Christmas! This year we had noticed that some residents had gone above and beyond. Their decorations were excellent, and rivalled the park’s! Below is a selection of some of our favourites. They include the use of projectors, ribbon-adorned doors and well-timed lights. We would also like to give Roseann Anderson and Ian & Roseanne Connell a special mention. Roseann Anderson’s home lit up the street, whilst Ian & Roseanne’s inflatables were a very nice touch. These deserved a prize, so the winners were gifted with a box of chocolates. This has inspired us for next year, to potentially host an official competition for the best decorated home at Christmas!

Roseann Anderson (Top Left & Centre)
Malcolm & Alison McLeod (Top Right)
Arthur & Ann Glen (Middle Left)
Ian & Roseann Connell (Centre & Bottom Right)
Greg & Janet Robertson & Tracy Atchison (Bottom Left)
In particular, Oakwood Court’s decorations definitely deserve a thumbs up! 👍
Meet the Neighbours this Winter
On Monday 7th February, we held our first hub event of the year. Residents met at the hub to get back in touch with familiar faces and meet some of the new neighbours who have joined us. It was a great turnout, and everyone enjoyed!
Textile Tuesday
A weekly knitting, sewing and crotchet club is now taking place in the residents hub every Tuesday from 2pm – 4pm. Whether you’re experienced, or you’re a beginner looking to learn something new, the club is open to all residents. We can’t wait to see everyone’s finished creations!
Staff Training
In our blog about our phase 2 and 3 development, we mentioned that the park had swapped in it’s old Kubota for 2 new Kawasaki mules. On 9th February, staff members Carl Matthews and George Girdwood attended a training session on the operation of these machines. They successfully achieved their Certificate of Accomplishment in the Easi SbS Safety Driver Course! Congratulations to you both.
Keyboard Performance
On Thursday, 24 February, residents were given a keyboard performance from the wonderful and very talented “Piana Anna”. Anna-Louise Kinnie is currently studying piano. She performed classical pieces such as Beethoven, Mozart and Chopin. All of our residents thoroughly enjoyed the performance and were very impressed. Thank you Anna-Louise for your evening of musical entertainment!
Quiz Night
On Monday, 28 February, a residents quiz
night took place, hosted by resident Arthur Glen. Congratulations to the lucky winners – The Wooden Tops of Oakwood Court. This included Tony and Judith McLean, Dennis Noonan, Anne Glen and Brian Crombie.
Donations
Thank you to residents and staff who managed to raise £33.19 for this month’s charity, The Butterfly Trust.
We’ve had an action-packed winter, and we plan on spring continuing in the same way! If you would like to find out more about the events coming up at Red Deer Village, please contact us to find out more.
