Winter News 2025
What another very busy year we’ve had at Red Deer Village Residential Park in Stepps, Glasgow! Scotland’s over 50’s retirement community always has plenty of news to keep up with, and winter 2025 has been no exception. From Christmas lights to work anniversaries, wreath making to TikTok, read on to get all the latest from Scotland’s luxury retirement village!
Christmas Wreath Making
Carol from Have Fun With Flowers came to Red Deer Village to teach residents how to make beautiful Christmas wreaths. This was a great afternoon for all of the lovely ladies that came to our residents hub to take part! We hope to host another class soon.
Christmas Decorations
Red Deer Village held our annual Christmas lights switch-on on 1 December. We are trying to be environmentally conscious and reduce our carbon footprint so don’t have quite as many decorations this year. However, we still think the park looks beautiful. Our maintenance team work very hard to get the decorations up and running for the festive season, so a big thank you goes to them!
Christmas Lights Competition
For the last couple of years, Red Deer Village have held a Christmas lights competition between our residents, to encourage every home to light up the park. The entries get better every year! This year, our long-standing champion, Roseann Anderson, takes 1st place. However, because this year we have seen some residents take their decorations to the next level, we have introduced a 2nd place for 2025, which goes to Denise and Martin Lavery. Their home really does light up their street! We’d also like to give special mention to Malcom & Alison McLeod, John & Margaret Daly and Anne & Arthur Glen. Well done to all our residents who decorated for Christmas, everyone’s park home looks beautiful but there are too many to mention everyone!
Bus Trips News 2025
Our courtesy minibus takes Red Deer Village residents for their shopping twice a week and on a monthly outing to a destination of their choice. Our minibus driver, John, is happy to take suggestions from everyone about where they want to go. This year, the bus has visited locations such as Largs, Peebles, Troon, Edinburgh, Perth, Dunfermline, Callander, Aberfoyle, Clyde Valley and Stirling.

George the Gardener’s Wedding
In October this year, our gardener of 6 years, George, celebrated his wedding to long term partner, Kim. The staff and their partners were invited to the reception for the evening and enjoyed a wonderful night out. Congratulations to George and Kim, the happy couple, we wish you a lifetime of happiness together.
We’ve Gone Electric!
We’ve added a new all electric VW ID.3 to our vehicle fleet. This is in an effort to reduce our carbon footprint. It will be charged using the EV chargers we have within our over 50’s retirement village, which are available to all residents.
Veronica 2 Year Anniversary
This month, we celebrate the 2 year anniversary of our office manager, Veronica. Her presence at Red Deer Village has been invaluable and we are lucky to have her! Thank you very much for all your hard work Veronica, here’s to many more years at our over 50’s community.

Local Food Market
Stepps hosts a local food market on the Second Saturday of every month in the car park of St Joseph’s Church, across from the train station. The stalls are full of local businesses and tasty treats to enjoy. It’s only a short walk from our independent 50+ community.
Staff Training
A big well done to George Girdwood, John Rowan and Harry Wilkinson for completing their Kawasaki training this summer. Our staff also underwent manual handling training and regular fire drills this year. Training like this helps us keep doing what we do to a high standard – safely, confidently, and with care.
