Bee Swarm at Red Deer Village

Bee Swarm

One of our residents noticed a bee swarm in one of her plant pots in her own garden in June 2018. Therefore, our gardeners, John and Fraser, have now moved the hive to the back of the park. Now, it is near our pond, as it was directly outside our resident’s front door. The hive is doing well and is very active. Click the link to see a short clip of one of the bees returning home. It was taken just before the hive was moved.

Red Deer Village is a registered Honey Bee Friendly Park. The park is in the process of registering with the Scottish Beekeepers Association and the Glasgow and District Beekeepers Association. John, our head gardener, is planning to enrol in a beekeeping course in 2019. Subsequently, this is with the intent of the park purchasing 2 beehives and adding them to a quiet and unused area of Red Deer Village.

This once again highlights the rich local biodiversity and conservation efforts of Red Deer Village and the North Lanarkshire area!
