The vision

Parks directors, John and Ivan Hendry have lived and worked all over the world and have a vast amount of experience within the park industry. During their time in Australia, Canada and America they experienced a number of high-quality retirement villages and sought to emulate this environment on their return to Scotland.

In 2004 they purchased a former holiday park, Craigendmuir Caravan and Camping Site and embarked on the enormous task of redeveloping the land. Brothers John and Ivan invested heavily in the site with the intention of creating a well maintained and relaxing environment, where residents could enjoy a carefree and independent retirement.

In the period that followed John and Ivan sourced state of the art residential park homes from leading manufacturers, Stately-Albion and Homeseeker. Emphasis was placed on quality and great amounts of care have been taken to ensure every aspect of the park exceeds expectations. The villages interior designer, Ashleigh worked hard to put her own unique stamp on every bespoke home and the same level of detail has been applied to the entire development. The onsite gardening and maintenance team have created beautiful landscaping and floral arrangements that help to give the village a real wow factor.

In 2017 the staff at Red Deer Village took on one of their largest projects to date, creating a community hub for residents to relax and spend time with each other. The £450,000 purpose-built community space was designed to provide residents with a place in which they could host events and socialise. No expense was spared on this project, which boasts luxury fixtures and fittings. Since its opening, the hub has proved a hit with residents and has played host to a number of events and activities.

The staff at Red Deer Village pride themselves on the quality of housing they are able to provide and strive to provide residents with a hassle-free retirement. This commitment to excellence has been recognised by a number of industry bodies and Red Deer Village are the proud recipients of a number of awards, which recognise the team’s management, quality of the development and conservation efforts.

To this end, residents have access to a courtesy shuttlebus, which offers day trips as well as trips to the local shops.

History of the land

Red Deer is a secure gated village located in a quiet residential area in the village of Stepps, just 20 minutes’ drive from the centre of Glasgow. It is situated close to all amenities and within easy reach of Frankfield Loch. The site is 17 acres in size and makes up part of the Cardowan Moss nature reserve. The villages’ wonderful location affords residents peace of mind and provides ample opportunity to see a variety of nature.

Conservation is at the heart of all decisions at Red Deer Village and a number of initiatives have been employed to ensure the site is as environmentally friendly as possible. The land that Red Deer Village sits on has had many uses over the years. Prior to development it was a disused car park, piggery and part of the railway service.

In addition to the residential village a 5 star holiday park shares the same site.

The Team

Red Deer Village is proud to be a second-generation family business. John and Ivan’s children have become increasingly involved with the day to day running of the park and manage a number of important tasks. Ashleigh, the directors’ sister has worked at the park since it was purchased and is responsible for interior design as well as overseeing all aspects of Red Deer Village Holiday Park.

In addition to a strong family unit, Red Deer Village is supported by a hardworking and dedicated team of staff who play an integral role in the running of the village.

What does the future hold for Red Deer Village?

Red Deer Village has been embraced by the local community and demand for luxury retirement accommodation has grown. Red Deer Village is currently in phase 3 of 5 development with expansion plans over the next couple of years. The site has planning permission for 187 residential park homes.
