Our Residents Hub 2023

retirement home at quiz night event

At Red Deer Village we pride ourselves on our gated community of like-minded neighbours. Our residents are the guiding force behind everything we do here at one of Scotland’s premier retirement parks, just 5 miles outside Glasgow city centre. When moving to Red Deer, you can choose an active lifestyle, and regularly attend events in our residents hub, where you can surround yourself with neighbours and friends, and make the most of every activity we have to offer. Alternatively, you can choose a more simple and relaxed retirement, where you enjoy the comforts of your own residential park home. Or, a healthy balance of both may suit you; no hub events, but enjoy the use of our courtesy shuttle bus once a week for your shopping or once a month to an outing destination of your choice.

So what events have taken place at Red Deer Village this year? We take a look at what’s been going in our residents hub in 2023, and what’s new with the village people.

Residents Hub Quiz Nights 2023

Our quiz nights in 2023 held in our residents hub, have been great fun as always. A huge thank you goes to our resident organiser, Arthur, who does a fantastic job every time. Congratulations to all of our recent winners, the Wooden Tops of Oakwood Court and the Golden Girls! Quiz nights normally take place around once a month in our residents hub.

Bus Trips

Our monthly bus trip destinations lately have been the Clyde Valley, Helensburgh & Hillhouse, Blair Drummond Safari Park and most recently, Troon. We’re looking for suggestions for our next monthly outing!

EV Charging Points

Red Deer Village is moving forward with the times in 2023! We have implemented EV chargers throughout in the park. There is 1 beside the residents hub, and 3 in the holiday park. There are QR codes at each charger. Use your mobile device to scan the QR code, which will take you to our Tap Electric page. You can choose to use the site as a guest as a one-off, or sign up if you or your friends will be using the chargers often to receive a discount. Prices are displayed on the Tap Electric link.

Holistic Therapy

Holistic therapist, Jacqui Allan, has offered home visit holistic therapy sessions to several of our residents. Her services include reiki, a restorative therapy. It can aid anxiety and emotional upset by realigning the body’s energy, mind and spirit. Another service is reflexology. This improves blood circulation, stress, sleep levels and relief in body pain, beneficial for chronic conditions. The final available service is Indian Head Massage. This relieve aches, pains and tension in your neck, back, head and shoulders. We’re looking to trial a day full of taster sessions in the residents hub soon!

Charity Donations

In 2023, our residents hub charity box has raised £103.56 for Make A Wish, £52.42 for the Scottish SPCA, £56.88 for Marie Curie, £54.46 for Children in Need, £69.13 for Help for Heroes, £73.65 for Bernardo’s and £35.62 for the Salvation Army, as well as several bags of food. We also donated £35.00 to the Wildlife Trust, from selling wildflower seeds in our holiday park office.

The Salvation Army food and monetary donation was made by Red Deer Village just before Christmas. They let us know that with donations they provided a 2 course Christmas meal to 27 people and 9 volunteers in attendance on Christmas day. On a Wednesday they provide a 2 course meal for £2, and on a Thursday they offer a free soup and sandwich to those in need and the opportunity to receive a food parcel if required. The food we donated was used to help make up food parcels, which were used to help approximately 8 people at the time.

David Bellamy Blooming Marvellous Pledge for Nature

We’re delighted to announce that we have achieved the next David Bellamy Blooming Marvellous Pledge for Nature. The Everyone Active challenge has been completed, by actively trying to encourage our residents to take part. We share our wildlife conservation efforts regularly. Residents send in their great photography and we have very keen gardeners amongst the village. Next, we just need to work out a day for our interactive resident planting session. Let’s hope some time it stops raining!

We have also recently been mentioned on the BH&HPA’s Youtube channel. The video talks about how parks are using the David Bellamy Pledge to inspire and structure their wildlife conservation work. It highlights Red Deer Village, amongst other parks. It’s a great achievement for the team! Check it out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oFVb-5BQt-A

RSPB Wild Challenge

We have successfully achieved the bronze wild challenge medal from the RSPB!  The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds set out challenges to encourage people to get involved in nature. This may be small things to help wildlife thrive, or exciting ways on how to experience the outdoors. We’re looking forward to achieving our silver and gold!

Resident News

Park resident Les and his rowing partner Paul, took part in the Scottish Rowing Championship at Strathclyde Park on 3 & 4 June. They won the gold medal in the Masters Double Sculls to become Scottish champions. Well done to both, particularly Les!

We’d also like to wish a huge happy birthday to resident Mary, who will be celebrating her 80th birthday. Many happy returns!

Residents Hub Parties

Our residents love a party, and the residents hub is a perfect place to host! We’ve held themed parties, as wells as karaoke or country and western nights. Everyone always has a blast!

Staff Fire Training

Our staff undertook fire extinguisher and drill training at the start of the summer. It’s always a fun day with Colin, blowing off some steam with the fire extinguishers!
