The Story Behind Ashleigh’s Interior Designs

Interior Designs

Helping her family business stand out from the crowd is self-taught interior designer Ashleigh Hendry of Red Deer Village in Stepps.

Red Deer Village

Ashleigh has been responsible for the interior designs of all the luxury retirement park homes for sale at Red Deer Village for the past six years. The park is a unique retirement village for the over 50s, which is one of a kind in Scotland. Ashleigh’s brothers, John and Ivan, have owned the park since 2004, and it is now of a five-star standard.

Unique Interior Designs

Fifty-five residents live at Red Deer Village, having chosen to downsize and enjoy a more relaxed pace of life. The park homes are from leading supplier Stately – Albion, and are supplied fully furnished and decorated so that residents can move straight in. Each one is given a unique touch by Ashleigh to ensure that no two are ever exactly the same. This often involves Ashleigh personally sourcing fabrics and soft furnishings from exclusive Scottish Mills, with which she enjoys a close relationship. Sometimes the resulting interior designs are entirely her own vision, whilst on other occasions she can work in tandem with park home purchasers who perhaps want Ashleigh to create bespoke interiors to their own specifications.

How it Started…

It’s a job she loves and has become increasingly passionate about, as she explains. She is even now starting to take on her own private commissions. “Considering I never intended to work on interior designs. I wouldn’t want to be doing anything else,” she said. “I suppose I kind of fell into it. Initially, I was asked to take a look at one park home as the owners were lacking in inspiration. I worked with what the park home manufacturer had provided. This was of a high standard, but I just put a different slant on it. The owners loved the park home and it went from there.”

Scottish Textiles

“My brother John came across Voyage, a stunning Scottish based soft furnishings interiors company, at a trade show. He suggested I contacted them with a view to using their fabrics in the park homes. I feel it is is very important that they are sourced directly from Scottish Mills. I wanted to reference our location here in Scotland, a nation which has a rich textiles heritage,” added Ashleigh.

“We now have a fantastic working relationship with Voyage,” continued Ashleigh. “They are a superior supplier in the marketplace, and never fail to delight me with their designs, workmanship and quality. I feel that we have added something really special and unique to the park homes through this tie up.”

“We receive so much positive feedback from our purchasers, and those coming to view the park homes who are considering a move to Red Deer Village.”

What the Future Holds…

Ashleigh widened out her role when she started to “spec out” the new park homes as they arrived direct on the park. She chooses not just soft furnishings, but carpets, tiling, headboards, blinds and so on, all matched to fabrics.

“Yes, I started to look at the overall look and became more ambitious in my remit,” said Ashleigh. “If it was a case of working with buyers, some said to me they trusted my taste implicitly and I was to just do what I thought best. We even have single gentleman buying on the park, so I have to cater for all tastes and can’t make all park homes too feminine.”

Needless to say, Ashleigh is now a very popular figure on the park at Red Deer Village. She can often be seen out and about with her little Jack Russell dog, Megan.

“I am always on the lookout for new ideas, inspirations, mills and stunning fabrics.” She said. “So I feel my role will continue to evolve.”

Red Deer Village has a new range of park homes for sale priced from £109,950. Part exchange is also now available.
