The Benefits of Walking in your Retirement

Benefits of Walking

With the nicer weather (hopefully) on its way, we often look to get out and about a bit more. As well as looking at the lovely scenery, walking has many health benefits. Building bone muscle, reduce blood pressure and many more can be achieved. Walking is simple, free and one of the easiest ways to get more active. Red Deer Village, the over 50’s retirement park in Glasgow, have come up with a list of the best locations nearby to take a leisurely walk and enjoy the excellent Scottish outdoors, as well as the benefits of walking.

Benefits of Walking

Exercise doesn’t have to be difficult. Make sure you have a comfy pair of shoes, and you’re ready to go! While walking, you can enjoy taking the time to catch up with friends, or make new ones if you join a walking group. You can choose to walk at a slower pace for a longer period, or a quick high speed or uphill walk. Exercise is linked to living longer, and remaining independent. It lowers your risk of heart disease and diabetes, as well as strengthening muscles, keeps joins flexible and improves balance and coordination.
